While getting a diagnosis of Parkinson’s can be daunting, the idea of telling your family and friends can be even harder.
Questions may flood your mind. What do I tell my kids? Should I tell my boss? What will my spouse think?
All of these questions are completely normal and, in fact, healthy. Instead of rolling these questions around as you work through your day - talk about them. Sometimes addressing the elephant in the room is much easier than you may think.
Join us for a day specifically focused on issues around career and family for individuals with Young Onset Parkinson’s disease. Individuals with first-hand experiences and experts in the field will address each of these concerns and more.

Dr. Monique Giroux
Dr. Monique Giroux is co-founder of the Movement and Neuroperformance Center of Colorado in Englewood, CO. This center offers the continuum of care needs for people with chronic neurologic conditions through an integration of medical, rehabilitative and wellness-based care. Dr Giroux received her medical degree from Ohio State University, completed her Neurology residency at Yale and a 2 year Movement Disorders fellowship at Emory University and fellowship in holistic health and Integrative Medicine at the University of AZ. She is board certified in Neurology. Prior to opening her new center, Dr. Giroux has served as director of movement disorders at the Cleveland Clinic and the Booth Gardner Parkinson’s Center in Seattle where she has developed interdisciplinary care programs for people living with movement and cognitive disorders. She has specialized training in Botulinum toxin (Botox) for dystonia, pain and spasticity as well as deep brain stimulation for tremor, dystonia and Parkinson’s disease.
Dr. Giroux is actively advancing quality care and wellness for the community in her positions as Medical Director of the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation Wellness Center medical faculty for the National Parkinson’s Foundation Allied Team Training Program and project leader for the National Parkinson’s Foundation Care Center Consortium project. She is a board member for the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation in Seattle and Progressive Health in Englewood, CO. In the past year Dr. Giroux has worked with the Michael J. Fox Foundation and World Parkinson’s Congress to enhance educational programs for the Parkinson’s community. Along with Sierra Farris, PA-C she co-authored Every Victory Counts: Essential Information and Inspiration for a Lifetime of Wellness with Parkinson’s disease, produced in collaboration with the Davis Phinney Foundation, as well as Deep Brain Stimulation: A Patient’s Guide to Living Better.
Dr. Giroux also specializes in mind-body medicine and mindfulness therapy which she has adapted to neurological conditions and has produced a series of mindfulness-based wellness programs for people living with Neurologic diseases including tremor, dystonia and Parkinson’s disease.
Robyn Gisbert, PT, DPT
Robyn L. Gisbert, PT, DPT received her MS in physical therapy in 1994 and her Doctorate of Physical Therpay in 2009, both from the University of Colorado, Physical Therapy Program. Currently, she is a senior instructor at University of Colorado, Physical Therapy Program, where she has taught neuroscience and management of neurological conditions since 2007. Her clinical work focuses on older adults, and people with Parkinson’s disease. Her research interests include the use of dance as an adjunct to physical therapy.
Sierra Farris, MA, MPAS, CES, PA-C
Sierra Farris is a certified Physician Assistant with a master’s degrees in Clinical Neurology and Philosophy. Sierra has expertise in the medical, surgical and rehabilitative treatment for individuals with movement disorders. Sierra is co-owner of the Movement & Neuroperformance Center of Colorado that specializes in the holistic approach to medical care and rehabilitation of individuals with movement and cognitive disorders. She co-authored the Every Victory Counts manual. She has over 13 years experience treating more than 1,000 people with DBS using her advanced skills in DBS troubleshooting developed while working at the Cleveland Clinic. Sierra is a member of the DBS team at Swedish Medical Center. Sierra is a certified clinical exercise specialist with a background in exercise testing and development of individualized exercise prescriptions for people with neurological conditions.
